Dortmund (ots). Earlier this week, a video circulated on social media showing a dog being mistreated. Police seized the dog on Friday, April 17th.
On Tuesday, April 14th, the Dortmund police were made aware of a video on social networks. This shows, among other things, how a man beats a Malinois several times with a leash. The officers immediately initiated criminal proceedings for a crime under the Animal Welfare Act.

The video was distributed on countless channels over the course of the week, and as a result the police received a three-digit number of tips and criminal complaints. Initial investigations revealed specific suspicions against a 44-year-old man from Dortmund.

The officers contacted the Dortmund public prosecutor's office, which obtained a search warrant for the Dortmund man's apartment. This was carried out on Friday by emergency services with the support of employees of an animal shelter. The officers seized the dog and it was then handed over to an animal shelter. Further investigations against the 44-year-old are ongoing.
The Dortmund police ask that the video not be distributed further so as not to provide the crime with another platform. The police also point out that threats and calls for vigilantism are also criminal offenses that will be prosecuted just as rigorously.
