Woopets advice: what to do if a dog is bitten on the ear?
A bite may appear superficial, but ear wounds require careful monitoring, especially because of the risk of infection. In this type of situation, it is strongly recommended to:
- Have the wound examined by a veterinarian, even if it appears shallow: bites may have larger lesions under the skin.
- Do not apply disinfectant products intended for humans without veterinary advice.
- Watch for swelling, redness, discharge, bad odor or increased pain, which may indicate a complication.
- In case of bleeding, keep a clean compress on the wound with gentle, continuous pressure while waiting for treatment.
