On Monday, August 10, 2026, the animal service of San Diego County, California (United States), rescued a dog trapped in a sewer, then returned her to her family who had lost sight of her for a month, reported County News Center.
The rescue took place at Spring Valleyabout ten kilometers from Bonita where the said service is based (San Diego County Animal Services).
The agent Myers and the lieutenant Raygosa went to the scene. The first went down into the manhole and managed to attract the little dog towards her with some treats. She then brought it to the surface to hand it to her colleague, who placed it safely.
The survivor was taken to the animal service shelter. Thin, dirty and hungry, she was cleaned, fed and even vaccinated. She was scanned for an ID chip, but she didn't have one.
The family had not heard from Teddy for 4 long weeks.
A few hours later, a lady showed up at the shelter, saying she was the owner of the dog, whose name was teddy. She had been desperately looking for her for 30 days, combing neighboring neighborhoods, distributing posters and making calls for witnesses on social networks.
She provided staff with San Diego County Animal Services evidence allowing them to confirm that she was indeed the mistress. The reaction of teddy by recognizing his human nature left little room for doubt; although she had been reserved since her rescue, she became animated and began to wag her tail and howl with joy during reunions.
The owner, moved and relieved, expressed her gratitude to the San Diego County Animal Services team.
