Arriving at the shelter after being abandoned, Nikki and Philly are waiting for a new family to take care of them and support them through their illness. Their poignant story was shared by a volunteer who drew our attention to the exhausting journey of the 10-year-old dogs, and insisted on the need for a duo adoption.
On his account TikTok “ @sharing.lov3 », this volunteer explains that she went to meet the 2 dogs who had just arrived following a move. She explains: “They were dropped off because their landlord was moving into an apartment and said he couldn’t take them with him.”. After a lifetime spent in the same home, the 2 dogs had to face the unknown.

“The only thing left of their old life is each other”
The complicity of the 2 dogs was immediately evident to the volunteer. Very supportive of each other, they also seem devastated in the images of the video relayed by Pet Parade.
Later, we learn that Nikki And Philly are affected by a serious heart pathology, cardiopulmonary dirofilariasis, caused by a parasite which invades the heart and arteries.
Do everything for a duo adoption
The shelter that welcomes the dogs and the volunteers who take care of them know how complicated a duo adoption can be, particularly for cases of senior dogs. Everything is done to find one and the same family who could guarantee emotional stability to female dogs who are already suffering. The shelter adds that Nikki And Philly get along perfectly with children, cats and other dogs.
What are the advantages of adopting a senior dog?
Adopting a senior dog can impress adopters who often think about the medical costs quickly incurred to deal with illnesses linked to old age or already present pathologies. Welcoming an older canine into your home is also a real opportunity, and we have chosen to highlight several advantages:
- A well-established personality, the senior dog is rather predictable, which is a real plus when adopting
- Educational bases often in place, the ball of fur often has experience with other families and knows the rules of community life
- A calm temperament, the senior dog tends to be less dynamic, and enjoys moments of tranquility at home and with his family more.
- A deep attachment, the adoption of a senior dog takes place after a difficult life episode and the gratitude is evident in the face of new adopters
