Abandoned dog with duct tape around her nose is rescued by store employees

Not content with making her wear an extremely tight collar and brutally muzzling her, the owners of a dog discovered and rescued in Putnam County, New York State (United States), also left her to her fate, reported NBC4 New York. Fortunately, the good Samaritans who found her ensured that she received all the care she needed.

This sad discovery was made on the morning of Tuesday September 15, 2026 at Brewsterby the employees of a store in front of which she was desperately waiting for help.

This female German Shepherd was in terrible pain due to the insulating tape wrapped tightly around her muzzle. Her rescuers rushed to comfort her before taking her to the local veterinary clinic.

Examination of the animal revealed that it had a swollen nose, as well as irritated and damaged skin where the tape had been placed. Veterinarians also noted lesions around the neck, likely caused by a collar worn tight for a long period of time before it was abandoned.

A call for witnesses launched to identify those responsible

The dog is still at the veterinary clinic where she is being treated and constantly monitored to help her recover.

Subsequently, it will be taken care of by the Putnam County SPCA. This animal protection association has already mobilized its investigation service which is working to identify the person responsible for these acts of mistreatment and abandonment. A call for witnesses has been launched in the hope of gathering sufficient information in this regard.

Woopets advice: how to ensure that your dog's collar is not too tight?

A collar should remain comfortable and never compress the dog's neck. To check its fit, it is recommended to be able to pass 2 fingers between the collar and the neck, without them being compressed or the collar being able to slide easily over the head.

Regular checking is also necessary, especially in puppies and young dogs whose size changes quickly as they grow. You should also check the condition of the skin under the collar, particularly after a walk or if the dog wears this accessory for long periods (which is strongly not recommended).

A collar that is too tight can cause irritation, sores and discomfort, or even affect the animal's respiratory comfort. Conversely, a collar that is too loose can allow the dog to escape from it and thus present a risk of escape. The fit should therefore be checked regularly to ensure both comfort and safety.
