What to do about autumn grass mites in cats?
If the larvae of the autumn grass mite attack the cat, this leads to violent itching. It is important that the cat licks the affected areas as little as possible, knew or scratched. This does not help against itching permanently and can seriously damage the skin.
Cool the places where the larva of the autumn grass mite has bitten. This helps against the violent itching without injuring the skin.

How do you recognize autumn grass mites in cats?
Cats not adult autumn grass mites – but their larvae. They are orange and usually go to a large number to an animal or a person.
You will find the orange -red larvae (approx. 0.3 millimeters tall) The autumn grass mite in your cat most often
- On the head (around the eyes, on the ears, on the chin)
- on the paws (often between the toes)
- on the legs
- on the stomach
- on the chest
The autumn grass mites leave the skin of the cat's skin to whisper red, for which they should look out. In cats, these wheels can even occur so large that the rash reminds of the mange.
If you do not discover orange -red mites and the cat scratches the ear, it can also be an ear mites with the cat.
Can cats transmit grass mites?
Autumn grass mites (or their larvae) are not transferred to humans or vice versa by the cat. They stay with their host until they have eaten up and then drop themselves.
In Europe, the autumn grass mite usually does not broadcast any diseases. The bites of their larvae are not dangerous for cats, but in rare cases there are allergic reactions. These urgently need to be cared for veterinary.

Pyrethrum works effectively against autumn grass mites in cats. This substance can of course be found or synthetically produced. Defense agents that contain synthetic pyrethrum are more effective.
The spot-on from Ardap* For example, contains pyrethrum. The manufacturer promises an effectiveness of about four weeks. Not only mites, but also fleas and ticks are repelled.

- Place a white cloth, a white plate or a sheet of paper on the bottom of the lawn or meadow.
- Leave the cloth, plate or paper in the grass for a while.
- If you discover orange -colored dots on your item laid out, there are autumn grass mites in the meadow.
You can only determine your cat's freedom for a limited extent. However, if it is possible, you should not let the cat go where the autumn grass mites are located.
This is how autumn grass mites affect cats
Not the adult autumn grass mite, but their larva affects animals and humans. They lurk in the grass and then go over to their host. Once there, the larvae don't bite or stab: they scratch the top layer of skin.
With its saliva, the larva of the autumn grass mite dissolves the tissue in this scratch. The softened fabric serves as food.
The orange -red larva of the autumn grass mite stays on your host for a few hours to a maximum of three days (such as the cat). It then falls off by itself and develops into mite. However, the larvae do not sit firmly on the skin and can easily be removed by stripping.
Even if autumn grass mites are not a danger to cats, they ensure a horrific itching. This can be very excruciating and uncomfortable for the cat. That is why it is important to protect the cat from this parasite as best as possible and treat the itching accordingly.
