Costs for the dog from the job center?

Dusseldorf. The ARAG experts point out that purchasing and keeping a dog is not one of the costs that the job center covers as part of unemployment benefit II (now citizen's money) as ongoing benefits to secure one's livelihood.

In a specific case, a man applied to the job center for around 2,000 euros to purchase the animal and around 200 euros for ongoing monthly costs, such as food or dog tax. But the job center rejected the application. Rightly so, as it turned out in court. The Baden-Württemberg State Social Court also did not accept his argument that his dog helped to develop a daily structure and make social contacts (Af.: L 9 AS 2274/22).
