Federal Police Inspectorate Hanover:
Happy ending on the railway line in Elze
Hanover (ots). On Saturday afternoon, September 14, the federal police station in Hildesheim was informed about two dogs that had apparently been run over on the railway line near Elze. A train driver of a freight train saw two dogs on the track and was unable to brake in time.
A federal police patrol from Hildesheim and a patrol from the police station (PK) from Elze immediately drove to the scene of the accident. Once there, the federal police discovered a lively wire-haired dachshund. However, there was no sign of the second dog. Only a short time later, the officers from the Elze police station were able to obtain the contact details of the owner. (63) She stated that the two dogs ran away from home and that her larger dog returned on its own, but with injuries to its body. Apparently the first dog was hit by the train as it passed through, but was able to find its way home on its own. However, she was still missing her wire-haired dachshund at this time.
The two federal police officers managed to gain the little four-legged friend's trust and took him into “protective custody”. After he had received lots of caresses from them, he was safely handed over to his happy owner a short time later.
During the work, the railway line had to be closed for around an hour. This resulted in a total of seven trains being delayed.
