It was in the South West of England, in the county of Devon, that Charlie was saved when he fell from a cliff after trying to chase a seagull. Rescued quickly, the dog is safe and sound, but gave his owners a big scare on vacation in the region, and more precisely near Sandy Bay, known for its steep cliffs.
The owners were walking their Cockapoo when the tragedy happened, explains Daily Mail. The dog took off his collar to jump through a hedge, overcome by the urge to chase the seabird. Charlie then found himself in the void, fortunately held back by an overhanging cliff 50 meters below.
A place considered risky
Particularly dangerous and inaccessible, the place of the fall of Charlie was the scene of a fatal accident some time ago. A man, Thomas Aldwinckewho was walking dogs, had tried to save his dog, Macfell from the top of the cliff. Deceased, he was found later in the day, after an alert launched by his wife. The dog was found in a recess in the cliff.

“A complete technical rescue system”
The owners of Charlie alerted the coast guard as quickly as possible. Charlie could be located, and collective work was launched to recover the dog safely. One of the speakers explains: “Working alongside Exmouth Coastguard, we put in place a full technical rope rescue system and a rescue technician was deployed down the cliff to reach Charlie safely”.
The rescue was facilitated by a cooperating dog, who immediately took his place in the bag provided for him.
The guards concluded, relieved to have saved this adventurous canine: “We are happy to say that Charlie was safely rescued and reunited with his owners”.
