Megan, a volunteer with the Chain of Hope animal rescue organization, had met Missy 3 and a half years earlier. Neglected, chained to a tree, the dog lived outside in Kansas City, sheltered only by a small kennel. On several occasions, Megan and the association had wanted to take Missy to offer her shelter, but were met with refusal from her master. Until he finally accepted, recently and Megan was able to free her to Missy's greatest happiness.

But the owner refused, to the dismay of Megan.
With other volunteers, she had therefore resigned herself to being able to offer him only a minimum of help, regularly bringing him food, fresh water and company. Woopets info: can dogs differentiate between helping and threatening behavior?
Thanks to the way they observe us and perceive our emotions, dogs can interpret some of our intentions. They function in particular by association between a context, an action and the consequences that result from it.
-
According to recent studies, their ability to interpret our behavior allows them to distinguish a benevolent action from an error or clumsiness.
-
They may also feel relief when pain or stress disappears thanks to your intervention. They thus associate your action with the appeasement felt.
-
The same goes in case of danger: if you intervene and the situation becomes safe again, the dog may associate your presence with the disappearance of the threat and relax.
