Woopets advice: how to prevent temporary custody from turning into conflict?
When a relative or pet-sitter looks after an animal for an extended period, it is better to formalize the conditions from the start:
- Specify in writing that this is temporary custody, without transfer of ownership
- Indicate the expected duration and terms of restitution
- Ensure chip credentials are up to date
- In the event of disagreement, do not attempt to recover the animal by force, instead opt for a legal approach.
A clear writing – which has not been established in the case of Lucy – can thus prevent a simple custody solution from leading to a dispute that is difficult to resolve.
