At the beginning of July 2026, in the state of Nagaland in India, 18 dogs placed in bags, ready to be sold to be slaughtered and consumed, were rescued during an operation lasting 2 days. It was carried out by the American association Humane World for Animalswith the help of the 2 local organizations Pro Rural And Dimapur SPCAas well as the veterinary service of the city of Chumoukedimareported People.
The canines in question were owned by 3 former dog meat sellers, whom Humane World for Animals had managed to convince people to change activity through the program Models for Change.
The 18 survivors were in 3 separate villages. 15 of them, including 3 puppies and 3 pregnant females, were gathered at the home of one of the former sellers. The remaining 3 were temporarily placed with another lady. When the volunteers came to pick them up, they were entitled to “ a concert of barking, wagging tails and jumping “.

They were all examined, treated (one of them had a broken leg), vaccinated and brought to safety. 8 of them have already joined their adopters in Nagaland.
