Dusseldorf. According to the ARAG experts, what applies to children after a separation does not necessarily also apply to pets. Although there are certainly judges who advocate alternating care for a pet purchased together (Frankenthal Regional Court, Ref.: 2 S 149/22).
But in this specific case, the man was unlucky after the separation: the dog he bought together stayed with his ex in their former shared apartment after he moved out. The judges rejected his claim for an alternating model in which everyone can look after the animal for two weeks. Since the woman mainly looked after the four-legged friend after her ex-partner moved out and also has to pay him a compensation amount, a change model was out of the question here (Potsdam Regional Court, Ref.: 7 S 68/23).
