K9 – The Dog Squad with Jim BelushiMunich. In the hit film “My Partner with the Cold Nose,” US star Jim Belushi played the police officer Mike Dooley, who investigates together with the German Shepherd Jerry Lee. Now the 72-year-old actor is returning to the heroes on four paws – but this time to their real role models: In the documentary series “K9 – The Dog Squad with Jim Belushi”, which Crime + Investigation is showing as a German TV premiere from September 29th, he gives insights into the work of police dogs and their human partners.

Footage from body cameras, dash cameras and drones document sometimes risky operations by police dog handlers and their four-legged partners. The series shows how closely people and dogs work together in police work.

In the 20 half-hour episodes, the documentary series follows K9 units from various regions of the USA in their everyday operations. The teams pursue fleeing suspects, support manhunts, search for missing people and are deployed in operations following burglaries, traffic accidents or serious violent crimes. Whether chases, dangerous arrests, traffic stops or drug offenses – the focus is on specially trained service dogs whose instinct is just as crucial as trust and close cooperation with their handlers.

While filming “My Partner with the Cold Nose,” Jim Belushi got to know police dog squads up close and spent time in training centers for K9 units. “I fell in love with these dogs. I was immediately impressed by them,” says Belushi. He was particularly impressed by the loyalty and trust between the dogs and their handlers: “These animals are not just partners – they are protectors and save lives. They are family.” The documentary series focuses on exactly this special relationship based on real missions.
