Light in the dark – More safety for people and dogs

Sulzbach/Ts. The long days are over, with the time change the time of long darkness begins again. Since many walks with dogs now have to take place in the dark, it is particularly important to the animal protection organization TASSO eV, which runs Europe's largest free pet registry, that people and dogs are visible.

The dark days are a challenge for many people. Visibility is poor in traffic, lights are dazzling, obstacles and other road users are difficult to see. It is therefore particularly important at this time that dog owners take responsibility for ensuring that they and their animals are seen well. There is now a large selection for dogs in pet stores. There are the widely used glowing rings for the dog's neck, which can often be easily charged via USB. They come in large and small, wide and flat, so there is something suitable for every dog and every coat. Small pendants with lighting elements that can be quickly and easily attached to different places are also becoming increasingly popular. Luminous or reflective scarves, collars, leashes and harnesses also ensure more visibility. Dog coats, sweaters and vests are also available with reflective stripes or even their own lighting. They also ensure that the four-legged friends can be seen well and early.

However, the task doesn’t end with the dogs. The two-legged companions should also be visible. It may feel strange to attach reflectors or lights to your clothing and walk around the neighborhood lit up. But it is important because it is the only way others can recognize the human-dog team and adapt to it. And actually a few colorful lights also bring color into the sometimes cloudy autumn days. On unlit paths, it is also practical to take a flashlight with you: on the one hand, the path becomes visible and tripping hazards can be avoided, and on the other hand, the dog's remains are much easier to find and dispose of if you can see them.
