News A dog was the trigger: Kuhherde tramples 85-year-old hikers to death

Near a mountain hut they met a herd of cows with young animals. The animals apparently reacted panicked and attacked the hikers. Any help came too late for the 85-year-old man.

As the police said, the couple in Ramsau am Dachstein was on a forest path when they met several suckler cows with three calves around 5:45 p.m. The herd suddenly stormed towards the hikers and overrun. According to witnesses, the animals were startled by the dog carried out, like Salzburg24.de reported.

The operators of the nearby hut and other eyewitnesses immediately provided first aid and informed the emergency services. The seriously injured man was flown to the Cardinal Schwarzenberg Clinic by helicopter, but died on the way there. His 82-year-old wife also suffered serious injuries, but is not in mortal danger. The dog was slightly injured and handed over to the care of relatives.

Again and again there are dangerous situations with cattle in Austria. The animals often react aggressively to dogs that they feel as a threat to their calves.
