The EU Ordinance 852/2004 On food hygiene it regulates that animals in areas where food is handled must have no business. These include supermarkets, butchers, bakeries, storage rooms or open counters. This regulation generally applies in the entire European Union.
But some regions of Italy show that there is another way – at least if hygiene specifications are creatively met. Dogs can be brought along as long as they have no direct contact with food – for example by sitting in a specially intended shopping cart.
Four -legged friends on tour – supermarkets open
Influencer Sophie Strübing recently showed on Instagram how she goes shopping with her friend Hannah and her dogs – in the middle of an Italian supermarket. The reactions of your community? Overwhelmingly positive.
In the meantime, more and more large supermarket chains in Italy are adapting to the animal -friendly trend. The chain “Si con te” (“with you”), which dogs expressly welcomes, is particularly important. Hospitality is very important here – not only to people, but also towards their furry companions.
The well -known chain “Coop” also allows dogs to access in many places. The regulations vary depending on the branch, but dogs can shop together with their owners in many places. The focus is on regionality, sustainability – and family friendliness, which also includes animals.
The retail giant “Carrefour” is similarly open: In many branches, a leash, well -behaved dogs are welcome. The specifications here also vary from location to location, but overall the attitude towards dogs is significantly more relaxed than in Germany.
In addition, many smaller delicatesses or organic stores allow dogs to bring with them. Nevertheless, the following applies: Before purchasing, a look at the relevant information at the entrance is worthwhile.
Unthinkable in Germany
Many German dog owners would like similar regulations – this is what the enthusiastic reactions on social networks show on Italian supermarket videos. Comments like “There should also be there” or “I hike” are not uncommon.
But reality in Germany looks different: the Rewe group categorically rejects an opening for dogs. A spokesman justified this with the clear requirements of the EU regulation-assistance dogs are the only exception.
There are also critical voices on the part of customers. Some people find dogs in the shopping cart to be unsanitary, others point out that dogs could stay alone at home.
Important note for dog owners
Since dogs are usually not allowed in German supermarkets, they should not be taken with you in the best case. If you don't want to tie your dog unattended in front of the store – what can be dangerous – should rather leave him at home. How to train alone can be read in special guides.
Vacation in Italy – also an experience for dogs
