The animals lived there under extremely poor conditions. Due to massive violations of the Animal Welfare Act, the man also received a permanent ban on animals. While his defense lawyer had requested a two -year probation penalty, the public prosecutor applied for two years and nine months in prison, as well as a temporary ban on animal husbandry of five years.
Overwhelming after the mother's death
In court, the accused said that the dogs originally heard his mother with whom he lived in the house. After her death in 2018, he took responsibility, but was not up to this task. He also stated that he still lived in the house until January and only stayed somewhere else at times.
Protest before the court
During the trial, several animal rights activists gathered in the morning to protest against cruelty to animals. They demanded stricter punishments and made their attitude clear with banners. On a poster it said: “No grace with those who know no mercy”, another demanded “harder punishments for animal torture”.
Discovery by citizen notice
In February, a hint from the population had led to the rescue of the dogs. The veterinary office found the animals in a neglected, empty house. Many of them suffered from strong hunger and thirst and had started to eat wallpaper, pieces of furniture and even excrement. Some dogs could hardly walk. Numerous animals had matters of matters, eye and tooth infections, some bitches were pregnant.
Two animals did not survive
After securing in February, the dogs were medical care and maintained in various animal shelters. The animal welfare organization Gut Aiderbichl in Osnabrück recorded 20 animals. According to the employees, the state of health indicated that no one had taken care of them for at least half a year. 24 dogs found a new home by May. However, two animals had to be put to sleep due to their severe suffering.
