News Wunderhund Keks: How he survived 42 head shots

The story of biscuit is shocking and at the same time moving. It shows how cruel people can act – but also how strong hope, love for animals and medical help are.

Dog survives 42 shots – the martyrdom of biscuit

When Keks was brought to the Bautzen animal shelter in March 2025, nobody suspected what he had done. Only an X -ray revealed the entire extent: 42 diabolos, tiny projectiles from an air rifle, were in the head of the mixed breed.

The fact that the dog had survived this at all borders a miracle. Even worse: his own owner had kept shot on him.

What are diabolos?

  • Diabolos are small projectiles for air pressure weapons
  • Often made of lead or tin
  • Dangerous for animals and humans if they are used specifically

Three operations save life

After the shocking diagnosis, biscuit had to be operated on several times. A total of three interventions were necessary to remove most of the diabolos. But even after the last operation, some floors remained in the tissue because another procedure would have been too risky.

His new owner, animal shelter employee Maria Göpfert, reports: “It would have been too dangerous to remove all projectiles.” Nevertheless, biscuit is much better today. At times he wears a neck collar and recovers from the hardships.

Police investigated the perpetrator

The cruel deed was not unpuned: after a house search, the police secured the air rifle. The former owner is now being investigated for violating the Animal Welfare Act. He has to answer in court.

A new life full of love

Despite everything he had to endure, Keks has not lost confidence in people. Today he lives with his rescuer Maria Göpfert and enjoys the attention that he was previously denied. His gaze is full of trust – as if he wanted to catch up with what he missed for so long.

His story touches many animal lovers and shows how important it is to draw attention to cruelty to animals and not to look away.

Keks is a symbol of suffering and hope at the same time. He survived 42 shots and in the end found love and security. A story that gives courage and shows that even after the greatest pain, a fresh start is possible.
