Hamburg mobilizes for dogs in need:
Demo aims to promote adoptions from animal shelters
Every dog deserves a loving, permanent home. But every year an estimated 80,000 dogs end up in German animal shelters. To raise awareness and encourage adoptions, the dog food brand Pedigree is inviting people to the first Paw Parade in Hamburg. Partners are the German Animal Welfare Association, AniCura and ZooRoyal. All dog lovers are welcome at the Paw Parade – whether they have their own four-legged friend from an animal shelter or simply want to make a statement for shelter dogs. For every participant in the Paw Parade, Pedigree will donate 50 euros to the German Animal Welfare Association, in particular to support the valuable work of the animal shelters.
Hamburg. Leash on, paws on the signs and walk together through the district: When Saturday, 28 September, from 3 p.m., When the Paw Parade moves through the Schanze for the first time, dog owners and animal lovers are hoping for a wow effect: Pedigree and its partners want to inform people about adoptions from the animal shelter and draw attention to all the cute furry friends who deserve a second chance.
Supporting programme that not only makes dogs’ hearts beat faster
As part of the supporting program, Karo Beach in front of the Rindermarkthalle will be transformed into a center of solidarity for shelter dogs from 12.30 p.m. After a pet boom during the pandemic, more dogs than ever have ended up in facilities – many animal shelters are at the limit of their capacity and are facing rising costs and falling donations. The Paw Parade wants to raise awareness and provide support here.
The German Animal Welfare Association and its pet register FINDEFIX will provide information on-site about dog ownership, adoption, identification and registration. Four-legged friends can be registered on-site with FINDEFIX free of charge. The Hamburg Animal Welfare Association of 1841 will provide information about its work in the animal shelter on Süderstraße. ZooRoyal and REWE merchant Holger Stanislawski will personally welcome guests at the ZooRoyal stand. The former professional footballer and trainer will sign 200 pet balls and give them away to visitors. Dog owners can also get individual advice on the right coat care from a dog groomer. Anyone thinking about adopting themselves can find dogs that are currently looking for a new home in the profiles posted. Veterinarians from AniCura also explain how dog owners can give their four-legged friends first aid in an emergency. Pedigree will be the on-site host and will provide advice on optimal dental care for dogs and the selection of suitable snacks.
Further highlights await guests, including several competitions and a photo booth where dog owners can have their picture taken with their furry friends. Food and drink will be provided on site and the Paw Parade is of course 100 percent dog-friendly: no loud music, but plenty of snacks and water stations.
Every demo participant triggers a donation
From 3 p.m., the two-kilometer dog walk through the Sternschanze will begin. The “Silent Demo” is intended to draw attention to the fate of many dogs without a home and to send a clear message for animal welfare. Based on the belief that every dog deserves a loving home, Pedigree will donate 50 euros for each registered demo participant to the German Animal Welfare Association, the umbrella organization for animal shelters. Participants also have the opportunity to donate directly on site and thus make a further contribution to animal welfare. Dog lovers can register now at www.pedigree.de/pawparade.
