Customs Dog Dewi and Shepherd Cami from Stuttgart AirportTogether with customs dog handler Bettina Remppis, 'Dewi' has exposed dozens of drug smugglers over the years. After her training for customs, 'Dewi' was used as an anesthetic detection dog to search for people. Only with a mobile control team of the customs in Bavaria and then with the switch from Mistress to Stuttgart customs at the airport in the state capital. The “work” was only one game for 'Dewi', after all, the Labrador bitch only looked for the smell on which she was conditioned during the training. Your attitude extremely professional: the people – whether smuggler or not – didn't care about the bitch in the search. For customs capital Remppis, the end of service for her 'Dewi' is understandably a very emotional matter. “With a few gray spots in the fur you slowly look at her age. But such a retirement after all the wonderful shared experiences is not tangible,” the 45-year-old Remppis recalls the time with 'Dewi'.

On Monday, April 28th, the Labrador bitch was the last time, checks at the airport, sniffing after narcotics and as a secret star among the customs dogs, of course, cuddle with the two -legged colleagues. For Bettina Remppis, the CHAIR CHAIR DOGES OF CHAPTER: Of course with 'Dewi', who also remains with the customs officer, and with 'Cami', a two -year German shepherd's shepherd who will accompany the civil servant as a new service dog in the future. At the moment, 'Cami', with a full name 'Cami von der Buronstadt', is still in training; However, from summer, however, will also start the narcotic search for people.

Customs Dog Dewi and Shepherd Cami from Stuttgart AirportCustoms Dog Dewi and Shepherd Cami from Stuttgart AirportA difficult undertaking for Remppis, not constantly comparing the dogs: “Every dog has its own personality. While 'Dewi' has set standards with their calm way and meticulous search,” Cami ', not least because of their youthful age, is a real hot spur. ” The customs dog handler on the effect of the young shepherd's dog on travelers is particularly excited. When Labrador dog 'Dewi' searched for drugs on the passengers, numerous travelers immediately asked if they could stroke the dog. Since the shepherd's dog 'Cami' with her specific appearance is necessary for people, although she is not trained as a protective dog. The two customs dogs also differ in terms of expectations during the rewards: While 'Dewi' was particularly pleased about a treat after finding drugs, Remppis trains only with a reward by playing with a ball.

From May, 'Dewi' will be able to enjoy your retirement a little more in the basket and for 'Cami' the controls in the terminal or at the bus station will become a bit more everyday life. For Remppis, who can truly see the passion for their profession in dealing with animals, also a comforting thought. “Nice that a retirement can be something new here too.”
