Placed in a shelter, this old blind dog is happily welcomed by an energetic little kitten (video)

Located at Tucson in Arizona (United States)Old Souls Animal Rescue and Retirement Home is not an animal shelter like any other; it is specially designed to accommodate older dogs and cats. The latter live a peaceful “retirement” there, receiving all the care and attention they need.

Recently, this structure saw the arrival of an old blind dog called Iago. He was treated to a warm, happy and lively welcome from one of the youngest residents, a kitten named Radio.

The little feline really can't sit still. Full of energy, he started hopping around the canine and even gave it little paws. Even if Iago was still a little disoriented at the time, he didn't seem unduly bothered by the kitten's enthusiasm. They even got along very well afterwards.

We can discover their meeting in the video below, shared on June 3, 2026 on the account TikTok of the shelter “ @oldsoulsanimalres » and relayed by Pet Parade :

Old age, blindness and accident

Another video, posted online the next day, tells the story ofIago. We learned that, a few weeks earlier, the senior dog had been hit by a car. He was taken to the veterinary emergency room and then transferred to the intensive care unit.

Recovered from the accident, he was taken care of by Old Souls Animal Rescue and Retirement Homestructure perfectly adapted to its needs.

Of course, Iago needed an adaptation phase. The first days, he was somewhat lost, having to find his bearings despite his blindness. He was confronted with new smells, sounds and sensations. The team helped him by guiding him and reassuring him by voice.

The old boy gradually relaxed and made a special place for theOld Souls Animal Rescue and Retirement Home. He is now surrounded by friends, including the untenable Radio.

This blind dog was in emergency ICU care at the shelter just a few weeks ago. Today, Iago is safe at Old Souls Animal Rescue, where he's learning that the world isn't quite so scary when you have gentle voices and helping hands around you, a soft place to rest, and friends by your side. Every day he grows a little more confident, a little more comfortable, and a little more trusting. He may not be able to see the world, but we hope he can now feel the love in it?? If Iago's story touched your heart, please like, comment, share, and repost this video. Every interaction helps more people discover Old Souls Animal Rescue and the animals that call it home. Woopets info: can inter-species cohabitation help a traumatized animal to be soothed?

Yes, cohabitation between different species can sometimes play a positive role in the emotional reconstruction of an animal that has experienced trauma. The presence of another companion, particularly young and sociable, can stimulate curiosity, recreate social interactions and help the animal reinvest its environment in a more serene manner.

However, this is not systematic. It all depends on the animal's temperament, its level of post-traumatic stress and its ability to tolerate novelty. A weakened dog or cat may also perceive this proximity as a source of additional pressure, especially if its counterpart is very energetic or invasive.

In some cases, poorly adapted cohabitation can even slow down emotional recovery, maintaining a state of hypervigilance or preventing the animal from resting properly. This is why the introduction must always be gradual, supervised and adapted to the rhythm of the most vulnerable animal.
