Help from the pharmacy reduces health risks for humans and animals
Ingelheim. This year's flood disasters have not only caused immense damage, but have also triggered a massive mosquito plague in several federal states. Southern Germany is particularly affected: The Tagesschau recently reported that restaurateurs are already experiencing a drop in sales because guests are staying away or ending their visit early – especially in beer gardens and on campsites.
The floods have created ideal breeding conditions for various mosquito species. Mosquitoes lay their larvae in the damp reed and meadow areas, and the warm weather allows them to thrive quickly. In April there were warnings of an early mosquito season due to the mild winter. Now the current conditions are making the situation even worse.
In addition to the native mosquito species, the spread of invasive exotic mosquito species such as the Asian tiger mosquito and the sand fly poses an increasing health risk. Invasive species have spread in Germany in recent years due to climate change and international trade and, if they encounter an infected host in this country, can transmit diseases such as malaria, West Nile fever, dengue fever, chikungunya fever or Zika fever. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) warns that infections acquired in Germany due to climate change could increase in the future.
But how do you protect yourself and especially your four-legged friends? You can get effective products from the pharmacy to prevent mosquito bites – both for travel and at home. Protection is also particularly important for our animal companions. One tried and tested remedy for mosquito bites in dogs is Frontline Tri-Act. The parasite repellent not only protects dogs from ticks and fleas, but also from flying insects such as the Asian tiger mosquito and the sand fly, which is considered the main carrier of leishmaniasis. Frontline Tri-Act works as a spot-on product that is applied externally to the skin, then spreads over the entire skin with the natural sebum film like an invisible protective coat and offers reliable protection against parasites for a month.
