Dusseldorf. As dogs and cats age, the risk of health problems increases. Regular check-ups are therefore the key to a long and healthy life for your four-legged companions. Agria Animal Insurance emphasizes the importance of these examinations and explains why health insurance makes sense, especially for older animals.
“Older animals have special needs, and regular medical monitoring allows us to continually check their health status and respond quickly to changes in health,” explains veterinarian Dr. Tatjana Breiltgens from Agria Tierversicherung.
Recommended preventive examinations for older four-legged friends
From the age of seven, dogs and cats are considered seniors. Veterinarians recommend the following routine examinations from this age onwards:
- General physical examination (once a year)
- Blood and urine tests (every 6 to 12 months)
- Dental checkups (at least every 6 months)
- X-ray and ultrasound examinations (as required, at least annually)
- Nutritional advice and weight checks (regularly)
“Through regular check-ups, we can detect and specifically treat many age-related diseases, such as heart or kidney disease, diabetes or osteoarthritis, in the early stages in order to maintain the quality of life of our animals and enable them to live longer, healthy lives,” emphasizes veterinarian Dr. Tatjana Breiltgens.
Protect pets even in old age
These diseases occur more frequently, especially in animals aged seven and over, and can be prevented by the new fee schedule for veterinarians (GOT) become very costly. Few pet owners know that even when they are older, it is not too late to take out health insurance for their pet in order to reduce the financial burden in old age.
“Many pet owners think their pet will automatically be rejected because of age or is so expensive to insure that it becomes unaffordable. At Agria, however, it is important to us to insure older animals just as reliably as our offspring,” explains Peter Bornschein, Country Manager of Agria Animal Insurance. Agria Tierversicherung does not automatically end insurance coverage when you reach a certain age. As long as the insurance is active, the protection remains in place. This gives our customers the security that their animal will be well looked after even in old age,” emphasizes Peter Bornschein.
Fit and healthy even in old age
A regular routine examination from the age of seven as well as financial protection, for example in the form of comprehensive health insurance, can therefore give the animal a longer life and a significantly better quality of life.
