Four paws explain how the garden for animals becomes beautiful and safe
Hamburg. A garden can be an oasis for both humans and pets and offer opportunities to explore, play and relax. The Global Animal Welfare Foundation explains four paws about which garden design is happy about cats and dogs and how the garden becomes a safe place for them.
“The top priority also has the protection of our animal friends from dangers in the garden. Check whether there are possible escape routes through which the animals can tear out. This can be holes in the hedge, broken or too low fences or a garden gate that no longer closes. Rabbits can also be digged here: Products from the pet market can help as a pastry protection. The garden fence should be at least as high for dogs that you cannot jump over it. Judith Förster, pet expert at four paws. “A densely closed rain barrel and a secure garden pond also prevent drowning accidents. Also make sure that the garden also covers the needs of wild animals such as hedgehogs or birds.”
For safety: chipping and registering animals
Since dogs or cats could also escape from the garden despite all the precautionary measures, it is particularly important to have the animals chipped and register in a pet register. In addition, pets should have all the necessary vaccinations. Freigee cats should also be neutered.
Garden fun for dogs and cats
If the temperatures rise, many dogs are happy about shady areas by attaching an awning, a sun sail or building a wooden shelter. Different textures such as grass, smooth stones or bark bring fun to explore and stimulate the paws of dogs and cats. “If you have the opportunity, you can set an area in the garden where the dog can dig to your heart's content. In midsummer, some dogs are also happy about a dog plan pool,” said the four paws expert. “Cats make you happy with cat -friendly plants like catnip, where you can sniff and nibble.”
Attention: Some garden plants are poisonous
While people enjoy flowering flowers and plants, some of them can be dangerous for our pets. “Depending on the type of type, the poison concentration, the eaten, the health of the animal and its size, the risk of poisoning can be low to extremely high. Symptoms of symptoms often show through nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or more serious symptoms such as breath, cardiac arrhythmias and kidney failure. In extreme cases, eating a poisonous plant can therefore be careful. Plants are questionable or even dangerous for your animal, ”says Dr. Judith Förster.
Beware of pesticides or fertilizers
Instead of pesticides or artificial fertilizers, pet owners should rather fall back on animal -friendly alternatives. “Art fertilizers based on cocoa pods and with an enrichment of castor marks are poisonous for dogs, for example,” explains the pet expert. “Basically, if there are dangerous substances for people, it can be assumed that they are also harmful to animals. If they have dissolved a fertilizer in water, the residual water must be disposed of. Since some pets like to drink from watering cans, they should also be carefully cleaned or placed outside their reach.”
