Schwetzingen (ots). On Saturday, October 12th, around 5:30 p.m., an attentive passer-by at Schwetzingen train station (Rhein-Neckar district, Baden-Württemberg) reported an unusual observation. A black mixed-race dog was seen by several people following a man as he boarded a train. The man obviously tried to keep the dog away by scaring her away and screaming loudly, which suggested that he did not know the dog.
At the train station in Oftersheim, the dog finally got off the train alone and a woman waiting there looked after the dog until the police officers arrived. Thanks to a Tasso tag that the apparently older dog was wearing, it was quickly determined that she was a boxer dog. Attempts to reach the dog owner by phone initially failed. At least contact could be made with another stored phone number, but this person was unable to look after the dog due to the distance.
Ultimately, the authorities managed to contact the owner directly. During the conversation that followed, it became apparent that the dog owner was heavily intoxicated. She said that her ex-boyfriend had “disappeared” with the dog. A little later she arrived at the police station, visibly drunk. Shortly afterwards, her ex-boyfriend also appeared, who was also drunk. It turned out that the man at the train station who had previously “sent away” the dog was the owner’s ex-boyfriend. Since neither the owner nor her ex-boyfriend were able to care for the dog, the animal was transferred to the animal shelter as a precaution. The police will forward the incident to the veterinary office in order to carry out a careful investigation into the circumstances and the animal's husbandry.
The animal shelter is now temporarily looking after the boxer dog until a final decision is made by the responsible veterinary office on how to proceed. (Photo: symbolic image)
