Everything changed overnight for a German Shepherd namedOdin. Although he had a family and a house, he suddenly found himself in a shelter box, that of the city of Baldwin Park in Los Angeles County, California (United States). After 8 years of faithfulness, he was deprived of his home and those around him, and did not understand what was happening to him.
His story shocked Lyss the Paw Fairywho visits area shelters to raise awareness of the dogs living there and help them find adopters. She regularly posts videos of them on her account TikTok “ @lyssthepawfairy “.
In one of these videos, posted online on August 6, 2026 and relayed by Pet Paradeshe was interested in Odin. We see the dog languishing in his box, turning in circles, chewing his bedding in despair… When these images were filmed, he had already been living in this reception structure for a month, and he was suffering enormously.

An adoption that saves his life
Worse still, Odin was on the list of residents to be euthanized. A real race against time was underway to save him before the fateful date.
The work of Lyss the Paw Fairy bore fruit; after the publication of his video, the German Shepherd was, in fact, adopted by a loving family. The refuge of Baldwin Park confirmed this on its website.
Here is the video that changed everything:
@lyssthepawfairy Odin captured so many hearts in his last video, but heartbreakingly, no one committed to saving him. After 8 years of loyalty, Odin was discarded. Now he's sitting in a shelter, overwhelmed and stressed, wondering why his family never came back. Despite everything he's been through, Odin hasn't given up on people. Volunteers have taken him out, and all he wants is love and connection. Even when a cat came into view, his attention stayed on the person beside him. His heart is still so full of hope. Odin does well with female dogs and prefers them over males. He deserves a family that will love him for the rest of his life—the way he has always loved others. Please share Odin far and wide. If you've been thinking about adopting or fostering, please consider him. His forever family is out there. We just have to help them find him. Odin's life depends on it. Woopets info: why can the shelter be so stressful for a dog?
Noise, repeated barking, agitation and frequent passing can keep a dog in a permanent state of vigilance. Added to this is the sudden loss of his bearings: he no longer finds the people, smells, habits and environment to which he was accustomed.
Lack of activity can also increase discomfort, especially in active dogs who need to exercise daily. A German Shepherd like Odinfor example, may particularly suffer from boredom and withdrawal when they do not get enough outings, exercise and mental stimulation.
The attitude displayed by the animal in these conditions does not necessarily reflect its usual temperament. Once placed in a calm environment, with attention and sufficient activity, a very anxious or agitated dog in a shelter can gradually return to much more balanced behavior.
