Understanding dog pain and behavior

Bremen. What happens when a dog behavior trainer and a veterinarian write a book together? In the case of the two authors Katrien Lismont and Dr. Patrick Blättler-Monnier has created a project close to his heart that appeals to everyone who deals with dogs who supposedly have behavioral problems.

Aggressive, fearful, or otherwise difficult-to-control behavior in dogs is much more often related to pain than most dog lovers think. Because the dog, as a hunter, is a master at hiding his pain. “Dogs are silent. Unfortunately, by the time they visibly express pain to us in the form of lameness or painful noises, they have already become unbearable!” write the two authors. With this insight from their decades of work around dogs, Lismont and Blättler-Monnier have set themselves the goal of making their readers aware of pain behavior and its consequences.

Anyone who has worked through this work will see their dog with different eyes: from theoretical explanatory models to behavioral psychology, pain factors and physical causes, the 225-page book covers a wide range of diagnostics, possible pain therapies and options for self-help, peppered with photos and graphics and clear case studies.
