“Animal protection only goes hand in hand” – twelve dogs rescued

PETA and Martin Rütter's team in action in RomaniaBucharest/Stuttgart. The team from Martin Rütter's “Adopt instead of Produce” association and four dog professionals from the well-known dog trainer's network visited the charitable animal protection project PETA HELPS ROMANIA on site in October. In a killing station there, not only could abuses be documented for legal action, but lives could also be saved. The team rescued a total of twelve dogs from this horrific place, including several in worrying health conditions.

An important focus of the on-site visit was a joint school project on the topic of body language and communication. The children should learn how best to approach dogs and avoid conflict situations. The students strengthened their compassion and empathy for all living beings in school lessons. Dogs and cats received medical care during a vaccination campaign by PETA HELPS ROMANIA in rural areas. They were given dog houses and much-needed food. The castration of dogs and cats also plays an important role in achieving sustainable change and reducing animal suffering in the country. 25 dogs and cats were neutered in one day in PETA's mobile clinic. As a nice highlight, all rescued animals were able to start a new life. They are now looking for a loving forever home through the animal shelter at the lake in Eisenhüttenstadt.

We have made school lessons an absolute highlight for the children,” says Jana Hoger, deputy project manager at PETA HELPS ROMANIA. “Our charitable animal protection project in Romania is an issue that is very close to my heart and I see more and more positive change in the country for the animals – we can all be a part of it.”

“The visit to the killing station shocked me deeply. There is so much hope and at the same time desperation in the eyes of these dogs – they all deserve a loving home. It is unbearable that animals continue to be bred and produced while countless dogs in need are waiting to be rescued. My urgent appeal is therefore: adopt instead of produce,” says Johanna Henkel from the “Adopt instead of Produce” association. “Only if we take responsibility together and stand up for these animals can we be the change that they so urgently need.”

PETA HELPS ROMANIA
The PETA HELPS ROMANIA team has been working on site 365 days a year for the animals in Romania for over seven years. The focus of the project is political work to advocate for humane treatment of dogs at this level. In the educational sector, empathy and compassion for all animals should be strengthened as part of animal protection work. Last but not least, this also includes the castration of dogs and cats and their medical care. Since the project began, around 80,000 animals have been helped. 16,000 children have taken part in PETA's animal protection classes in recent years.
