Missing for 1 year, this dog survived in the company of a pack of coyotes, before finding his family

Adopted by Chad and Carrie Woodruff, Ruger disappeared in Colorado Springs (United States) after living only 3 days with his adoptive family. For nearly a year, while his parents despaired over his running away, he had been spotted several times near a golf course, sometimes even in the company of a pack of coyotes. Last mid-May, finally recovered by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, he found his home to the delight of his family.

Ruger had been adopted by Chad And Carrie Woodruff in 2025. However, during this adoption, the couple was far from imagining that, just 3 days after arriving home, the dog would disappear.

He disappeared after only 3 days in his new home

My name is Ruger, and apparently I'm what humans call “an evasion specialist.” At the end of May 2025, I went to work with my father in a hair salon, and when a customer opened the door, I made what I personally considered a perfectly reasonable life choice: I rushed into the unknown, like a Victorian child boarding a steam train on its way to adventure. Unfortunately, my family did NOT agree that this was a good idea. »

A disappearance which left the family saddened and distraught.
