Without its discovery by a good Samaritan, nor the rapid and effective intervention of law enforcement, the chances of survival of a dog narrowly rescued in Utah (United States) would have been extremely slim. His rescue is reported by ABC4.
The events took place on the morning of Friday June 19, 2026 in the canyon of Mill Creek. A hiker spotted a senior dog lying on a trail, unable to get up, let alone walk. The witness immediately alerted the emergency services.
A police officer from Moab and the deputy Hansenfrom the Grand County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene. Advancing on this rough terrain was particularly difficult, but they were determined to save the quadruped.
When they finally reached the location of the canine, alongside which the witness was still standing, they realized that they could not carry him due to his size and the nature of the terrain. The police officer and Deputy Hansen then used their creativity; they used sticks and a blanket to make an improvised stretcher. The latter allowed them to transport the animal safely. Subsequently, they were able to obtain a sort of wheelbarrow, which made their task easier.
Arrival at the shelter and reunion
Responders took the elderly dog to the nearest animal shelter. In the meantime, his owner, who was able to be identified and contacted, went there to wait for him. The reunion was finally able to take place.
The survivor was seen by a veterinarian, who put him on a drip to help his body regain strength.
