In Moselle, this shelter launches a call for witnesses after the abandonment of a Chihuahua tied to her garbage dumpster in full sun

In the middle of a heatwave in Arry (Moselle), a Chihuahua cross dog was found tied to a garbage dumpster in front of the local shelter, without water or protection against the oppressive heat. Supported by the association, she was able to be saved and is now recovering, while a call for witnesses is launched to identify the author of this abandonment.

The animal was thus left to its own devices, without the possibility of hydrating itself and in the middle of a heatwave. “ We found her a little before 3 p.m., she was in full sun, without water. She was burning », says, in fact, Lucile Cousinresponsible for the Moselle reception structure.

The team intervened quickly, moistening the abdomen and paws of the dog, who does not have identification, before installing her in an air-conditioned room. She has been doing better since being taken into care.

“Not only irresponsible, but also extremely dangerous for his life”

Shelter staff members were on site throughout the day. The author of the abandonment could therefore have deposited the Chihuahua cross in complete safety, without putting her in danger and causing her all this suffering as he did. “ We don't even know how long she was hanging there. It's cowardly », continues Lucile Cousin.

The SPA ofArry has launched a call for witnesses, inviting anyone who recognizes the dog or may know her owner to contact her by e-mail: (email protected).

Woopets advice: what reflexes should you adopt when faced with a dog exposed to high heat?

During heatwaves, it only takes a few minutes for a dog to suffer heat stroke. In some cases, this can be fatal. Acting quickly and correctly can make all the difference.

  • Immediately put the animal in a cool place: in the shade or in a ventilated place.
  • Cool it gradually: wet the belly, legs and inner thighs with cool water (but never ice cold).
  • Give him a drink.
  • Contact a veterinarian urgently, even if the condition appears to be improving, as internal complications may arise afterwards.
