Woopets info: can a dog panic to the point of losing all bearings?

Faced with a particularly anxiety-provoking event, such as a storm, fireworks or a loud bang, some dogs adopt instinctive flight behavior. Their only objective is then to put as much distance as possible between themselves and what they perceive as a danger.

In this state of acute stress, they may no longer respond to the reminder, run several kilometers and lose their usual bearings. Dogs suffering from neurological disorders, such as epilepsy regarding Anselor with a particularly sensitive temperament may be even more vulnerable to this disorientation.

After such an episode, it is best to consult a veterinarian if the dog seems unusually tired, disoriented or has injuries. Finally, up-to-date identification (electronic chip and updated contact details) remains the most effective way to promote a rapid return to family in the event of a runaway.
