While Cassie, a female French Bulldog breed, and her owners were out for a nighttime outing, they had the unpleasant surprise of finding themselves face to face with a black bear. As frightened as they were by this unexpected encounter, the wild animal attacked the family. But that was without counting on the presence of the dog who, at 7 years old, did not hesitate for a minute before interposing to protect her masters. Injured, Mallory and Jeff Wilson were treated and are grateful to their dog who saved their lives.
When a simple night out in the garden turns into a tragedy… This is what people experienced on September 19 Mallory And Jeff Wilson while out at night with their dog, Cassie, a purebred female French Bulldog. It was there that they came face to face with a black bear, just as surprised and frightened as they were by this unexpected encounter. But the dog immediately stepped in to protect her family, without thinking about her own life.

When the cinnamon-colored black bear, which was first hiding behind the garden furniture, attacked Jeff Wilson, Cassie rushed towards them, interposing herself between her master and the attacker. Alerted by the cries, Mallory then rushed in turn, without seeing that the bear was now turning against her. Both spouses were seriously injured. Mallory suffered from bites, scratches, wounds to the face and head, while Jeff had 2 broken ribs. For his part, Cassie did not stop defending them, putting her life in danger in the face of the bear which grabbed her in its mouth. Mallory threw a lawn chair at him to scare him away.

A heroine who died to protect her masters
Seriously injured in the spine, the dog was rushed to the veterinarian and unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. “ She was not destined to become a hero. He wasn't our guard dog. She was just our adorable little pet dog », Confided Mallory to the media Redheaded Blackbelt, remarks relayed by PetHelpful.
According to Jeff, affected by the death of his dog, this encounter was as unexpected for them as for the bear. He may have simply been surprised by the arrival of the couple and their dog and, stuck between a fence and a gate, tried to protect his life or even his little ones. The exact circumstances of this attack remain uncertain.

“ I think you know that the bear was surprised by our presence just as much as we were (by his) », explained Jeff.
Treated for their injuries and unable to work for the moment, the couple received help from one of their friends, Rachel Moscon. In particular, it launched a fund to help them cope with the consequences of the attack, in particular their medical costs and expenses linked to their property.
