Advent calendar for dogs from Butternut Box. Gifts for four-legged friends are becoming increasingly important to owners.
Should it be the third streaming subscription during the Christmas season or should it be something good for your pet? A new study now provides an answer to this: More than a third of dog owners consciously put their pet's needs ahead of their own. This is the result of the “Pet Study 2026” by Uelzener Insurance. The four-legged friends have long been more than just a simple member of the family and are increasingly receiving gifts. “Just like two-legged family members, they deserve love during the holiday season,” says Daniel Topolanek, CEO of Butternut Box. The company also helps dogs in need with its Advent calendar campaign.
Berlin. For many people, their own four-legged friend is considered an absolute member of the family. For 90 percent of dog owners in Germany, their pet's needs are at least as important as their own. More than a third even put the needs of their four-legged friend ahead of their own. These are the results of the “Pet Study 2026” by Uelzener Insurance. “This creates an emotional connection that is similar to that of a human family member,” says Daniel Topolanek, Managing Director at Butternut Box.
Some love and happiness for every day
This is also evident when giving gifts: two out of three owners make sure to adapt their gifts to the preferences of their favorite animals. This now also includes our own Advent calendars. Instead of a single large gift, your four-legged friend can be given joy every day. “In the run-up to Christmas, it's not just your favorite people who deserve affection. We think dogs also deserve joy, which can be ritualized with Advent calendars. Both people and their four-legged friends are offered bond-strengthening experiences,” emphasizes Topolanek.
Healthy treats for the dog
The company focuses on healthy dog food and has developed its own Advent calendar for Christmas. The treats inside contain completely natural ingredients. This year the company is offering three different treats made from beef, lamb and turkey with cranberries. “When developing our calendar, we deliberately avoided unnecessary calories by completely omitting grains from the treats. Instead, they contain 60 to 70 percent human-grade meat and fresh vegetables such as carrots and parsnips. Ingredients that are not only tasty, but also provide important fiber and vitamins. This makes the snacks a delicious addition to a wholesome diet,” emphasizes the managing director.
Meals don't just go to your own dog
Butternut Box also goes one step further: With the calendar you can do something good not only for your own companion, but also for four-legged friends in need. For every copy sold, the company donates a meal to organizations that support dogs in need. “With the donations we would like to make a small contribution to the happiness and well-being of all four-legged friends,” explains Topolanek. So every door brings joy to your four-legged friend and at the same time helps other dogs get through the winter well – in the spirit of Christmas.
