What is the 'day of the dog'?The 'Day of the Dog' is an initiative of the VDH, the umbrella organization of dog breeders and dog athletes in Germany and takes place every second weekend in June. The aim is to emphasize the positive aspects of living together man and dog, to clarify responsible dog keeping and to present the diversity of the dog breeds as well as the diverse possible uses of dogs. It is an opportunity to appreciate the unique bond between man and dog and to draw attention to the importance of the dog in our society.
What is done on these days?

How can you celebrate your dog on the 'day of the dog'?
Even if you cannot or do not want to take part in an official event, there are numerous ways to celebrate the dog on the 'day of the dog' and to show it to him how important it is to you:
- Special walk: Take a long walk in a new or particularly beautiful place that offers your dog a lot to discover. Maybe a trip to the forest, a lake or in a dog -friendly park.
- Favorite toy session: Take the time for extensive play with your dog's favorite toys. Whether starting, having a torn or hiding – the main thing is that he enjoys it!
- Learn new tricks: Remove your dog mentally by teaching him a new trick or repeating known commands in a playful way.
* Pampering units: Treat your dog an extra portion of pats, an extensive brush unit or a gentle massage. Many dogs love to just be close to their humans. - Special delicacies: Surprise your four -legged friend with a special, healthy treat that he would otherwise not get, or bake homemade dog biscuits (Recipe: Make dog biscuits yourself).
- Visit to the dog shop: Some dogs love to visit a dog shop and choose a new toy or a chewing article yourself (Of course with your help!).
- Photography: Hold down the special moments with your dog. Take funny photos or a nice portrait that captures your favorite personality.
- Cuddle: Sometimes the biggest gift is just undisturbed time on the sofa or in bed, where they give each other closeness and security.
The 'day of the dog' is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the relationship with our dog and to make us aware of how much our furry friends enrich our lives. No matter how you spend the day – the most important thing to pay attention and love your dog. After all, they are not just pets, but real family members! (Stefan Richter)
