Is it in need of treatment and if so, how? The concern of this book is to follow this phenomenon of well -founded assessments and planned approaches.
It explains the development and maintenance of addiction and describes the associated continuing changes in the brain before a look at the classification of addictive behavior of dogs within veterinary medicine follows. The forms of expression of the addiction in the dog are then examined. Risk factors for the development of an addiction, further complex relationships and the consequences for the dog concerned are described. In the last section, practical approaches from the diagnosis of withdrawal, weaning and further perspective are presented.
The author combines her competence and experience as a addiction therapist for people with her knowledge as a dog behavior consultant to provide experienced dog people and experts new insights, ideas and approaches to a long underestimated problem.
About the author
In addition to other qualifications, Barbara Wahlig is addiction therapist and graduate social worker and has decades of experience in working with human addiction patients. In addition, she works as a specialist for animal-assisted therapy and pedagogy as well as as an instructor of therapy hinge teams and thus has the ideal conditions to combine the topics of “addiction” and “dog”. She lives and works in Freiburg im Breisgau.
