Fell into a 15 meter well filled with water, this dog was brought up safely by firefighters and returned to his family

The chances of survival after falling into a deep well, partly filled with water, are far from high, but a dog who recently experienced this terrible ordeal in a rural town in the southwest of the Oise was able to escape alive. Better yet, the canine in question did not suffer any injuries after this accident and was rescued by specialized rescue units, reported Oise Hebdo.

The facts reported by the Isarian media took place on Friday May 22, 2026 at the end of the afternoon, in the village ofAmblainville.

A Border Collie dog had just fallen into a well which is around fifteen meters deep. The bottom of the structure is filled with water.

The quadruped was still alive despite the fall, but it was necessary to get out of there as quickly as possible. Emergency services were therefore called, and the SDIS (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service) of Oise quickly mobilized significant resources for this operation which promised to be complex.

Returned to the surface safely

One of the firefighters was able to safely descend into the well, then harnessed the dog which was hoisted to the entrance of the cavity. Finally brought to the surface, the survivor found his owner who was impatiently waiting for him.

Woopets advice: what to do if a dog falls into a well or deep cavity?

A fall from a great height, especially into water, can be impressive even if the animal appears unharmed. In this type of situation, the priority is to limit secondary risks (drowning, hypothermia, invisible internal injury, etc.) and to avoid any dangerous intervention. Here are the good reflexes to adopt and, conversely, the actions to avoid:

  • Never attempt to descend yourself: risk of collapse, lack of oxygen or falling.
  • Immediately secure the area to avoid a second victim (other animals or people).
  • Call emergency services, specifying that it is an animal in a dangerous environment.
  • Do not throw anything into the well (loose ropes, food, objects, etc.) which could injure the animal or hinder rescue efforts.
  • When the animal leaves, even if it seems in good shape, a veterinary consultation is essential.
