Cologne. On June 11th The “World Rainbow Dog Day” takes place for the first time, a new day of action for LGBTQIA+ dog owner and its allies. The young 'Dogrebels' initiative calls this day as part of the Pride Month in order to strengthen the visibility of queer in the dog world and to draw attention to the importance of safe meeting rooms.
At the same time, the day should celebrate the diversity within the dog lover community and show why such a day of action is socially necessary.
More visibility and safe spaces for queer dogemeals The aim of the World Rainbow Dog Day is to bring LGBTQIA+ dogemans and supporters together and to reduce prejudices in the dog scene. Queere dog owners are sometimes facing special challenges in everyday life: from discriminatory comments on the dog meadow to the difficult search for dog schools, trainers or DOG sitting offers in a really open, prejudice-free environment. “Our vision is a colorful, respectful dog world in which everyone is accepted as he/she is,” explains Sascha Keys, co -founder of 'Dogrebels'. “With the World Rainbow Dog Day we want to show that love for the dog connects everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and that diversity is also seen as an enrichment in the dog community.”
As part of the Pride Month, the World Rainbow Dog Day is part of the international actions for equality and tolerance. The focus is on the dog lover community: So far there has been no special day that focused on LGBTQIA+ people with a dog. “We close a gap with this day of action,” continued Keys. Various hands-on activities are planned on June 11th. For example, 'Dogrebels' invites you to common rainbow idols in several cities and calls dog owners nationwide to show flag on social media under the hashtag #worlddrainbowdogday. Also allies, i.e. not queer dog lovers, expressly invited to participate and show solidarity. These actions are intended to make a visible sign of cohesion and acceptance in the dog scene.
outlookThe World Rainbow Dog Day should take place annually and permanently establish itself in the community of the community. For the future, the organizers also plan further steps to promote LGBTQ+ visibility in the dog world. So 'Dogrebels' is working on building a nationwide network that enables regular meetings, information offers and exchange rounds. In the long term, the initiators also want to raise awareness of service providers around the dog from the veterinarian to the dog school and thus create more secure spaces in all areas of dog keeping.
