Summer temperatures in Germany: PETA appeals to pet owners to never leave dogs in the vehicle

Stuttgart. Even in early summer, heat death threatens in heated vehicles: After a longer rain phase, large parts of Germany are now enjoying sunshine – some places will increase the temperatures up to 30 degrees in the next few days. Every year, numerous four -legged friends suffer a painful death in parked cars because people underestimate the heat and their effects. PETA therefore appeals to all dog owners to never leave animals in the car unattended.

“In high heat, dogs quickly become nervous in parked cars, scratch the slices desperately and panic. This exacerates the already life-threatening situation and often comes too late,” said Peta-specialist officer Björn Thun. “Anyone who leaves a dog in the car at warm outside temperatures risk the animal's life and have to expect a criminal complaint.”

Avoid dangerous situations and act quickly in an emergency
Just a few minutes in the sun to heat a parked car up to 70 degrees Celsius. But even a shadow parking lot or a slightly open window do not remedy the situation at high temperatures. Since dogs have only a few sweat glands and mainly cool down by panties, they quickly suffer irreparable organ damage or cardiac arrest in the hot inside of the car.

Table heat development in the carIf people discover a dog in the car or on a balcony on a warm day, quick action is required. If the car or apartment owner cannot be found, the police must be called immediately. If the dog is already in mortal danger – there are signs of tumbling, a dark tongue, glassy eyes, strong panting or vomiting – and there is no other way to free it, it can be necessary to take the pane. It is best to add animal -saving people to witnesses who can confirm the emergency situation afterwards.

If the car is in a supermarket car park and the animal is still out of danger, the holder can be called out via the license plate. If the dog can be freed from the car or from the balcony, first aid measures are required. Even if the condition of the animal seems to be improved by the supply, the dog must be immediately examined veterinary due to possible consequential damage to the internal organs.
