Popular travel destinations and what should pay attention to
Ingelheim. Many dog owners do not want to spend their vacation time without their four-legged friend, but also follow their desire to travel and adventure. Whether long walks on the North Sea, Mediterranean flair or hiking days in the mountains: Europe offers a variety of dog -friendly travel destinations. But if you are traveling with a dog, you should not only think of accommodation and activities, but also to protect against regionally typical parasites. Ticks, fleas, hairlings and mosquitoes – favored by climate change and mild winter – have spread in popular holiday destinations in Europe and can transmit diseases.
Italy, With its sun -drenched coasts and charming cities, many families with dogs attract every year. The brown dog tick is considered particularly active here. It can transmit honesty, babesiosis and other infections. In southern and coastal regions there are also sand mosquitoes that can transfer leishmaniasis to dogs. In northern Italy, heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes. Fleas are an issue all year round and can pass on tapeworms.
France lures with its scenic diversity – from the wind -flushed Atlantic coast to the warm regions of southern France. Here too, ticks such as Normandy are mainly relevant, which can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease or anaplasmosis. The risk of heartworm diseases that are transmitted by mosquitoes is increased, especially in the south of France. As in many regions of Europe, fleas are a year -round risk.
Croatia, Popular for its dog -friendly beaches and the clear Adriatic Sea, harbors similar dangers: a risk of babesia and honesty, transferable by ticks, as well as a stronger spread of sand mosquitoes (as the main carrier of leishmaniasis) and mosquitoes in the south.
The Netherlands With their wide dune landscapes and dog -friendly coastal sections, the uncomplicated travel destination are considered. Nevertheless, the tick volume should not be underestimated here either, nor is the risk of all year round active fleas.
Austria, With its green alpine valleys and dog -friendly hiking trails, it is particularly popular in summer. The season for ticks has extended significantly due to mild winter. Diseases such as Lyme disease and babesiasis occur more – even in higher locations.
Germany, mainly North and Baltic Sea, is becoming increasingly popular with travelers with a dog. Ticks are now active almost all year round and can transmit babesiosis, especially in eastern Germany.
Experts recommend that dogs ideally protect dogs all year round and from the start of the trip – with preparations that combat ticks, fleas and flying insects at the same time. Products such as Frontline Tri-Act can make an important contribution here, since they are also effective against flying parasites such as sand or tiger mosquitoes- insects that are increasingly not only in the south, but also in moderate climate zones. After returning from vacation, a veterinary follow -up examination can be useful, because many diseases transmitted by parasites are unnoticed in the early stages.
