When we think of the SPAwe often imagine shelters and adoptions, but its action goes well beyond that. Every day, its teams mobilize to help abandoned, mistreated or endangered animals. In Mayenne (53), for example, teams intervene every week in the field to respond to reports of animal abuse. Just recently, one of these reports offered a new chance to 4 dogs who badly needed help.
A shocking discovery in an unsanitary garage
This intervention began like many others, with a simple report. The team of the Mayenne SPA did not, however, expect what she would discover behind a garage door.
Deprived of going out, of human contact and of any socialization, they lived surrounded by their own excrement.
When the door opened, the team was hit by an unbearable smell before discovering animals, extremely dirty, with soiled coats, in an environment whose living conditions were difficult to imagine. Immediately taken care of, the 4 doggies were fortunately able to leave this hell behind them.
The start of a long reconstruction

The first contacts were particularly delicate: terrified, the dogs avoided any interaction with humans. “ These are not aggressive dogs…they are scared dogs, who simply never had a chance to live. », added their rescuers.
These balls of fur will not be offered for adoption immediately: before that, important resocialization work awaits them to allow them, little by little, to discover confidence, security and a real life as a dog. Finally !
