Necessary? Preventive check -up in the dog – dog messages

Boppard. The health and well -being of our four -legged friend are our responsibility. If the four -legged friend falls, you wonder if you have done everything? Why didn't you see it coming?

We humans also suffer when the dog is not doing well in terms of health- then make their own feelings a mountain and descent. No, unfortunately you can't ask your dog what he is missing. Many diseases are initially symptomless or are not recognized by yourself.

What can you do? Be careful, behavior changes can indicate health problems. To others, your own gut feeling can also tell you that something is wrong with the four -legged friend and then you should ask the vet. However, regular check -ups are important. They make it possible to recognize and treat diseases such as cancer, heart problems, eye or dental diseases at an early stage when the chances of recovery are still greatest.

Which examinations are important and how often?
A typical pension check at the vet includes:

Physical examination

  • Full -body examination: Palpate on swelling, knots, changes in the skin or the fur.
  • Head to foot check: Checking eyes, ears, teeth, mucous membranes and lymph nodes.
  • Heart and lungs: Listening to the heart and lung tones.
  • Belly: Falling up the abdomen on hardening or pain.
  • Joints and muscles: Check for lameness or restricted movement.

Vaccinations

  • Basic immunization: In the first months of life, basic immunization against common infectious diseases is carried out.
  • Annual refreshment: After that, annual refresh vaccinations are necessary.

Parasite prophylaxis

  • Deworming: Regular deworming against internal parasites such as worms.
  • External parasite treatment: Protection against external parasites such as fleas and ticks.

Dental prophylaxis

  • Tooth cleaning: Regular professional tooth cleaning to prevent dental diseases.

Blood tests
From a certain age: Regular blood tests are particularly useful for older dogs in order to identify changes in the organ functions at an early stage.

Age recommendations for investigations

  • Puppies: In the first months of life, several studies on basic immunization and to check the general state of health are necessary.
  • Young dogs: Annual studies for vaccinations, deworms and general health checks.
  • Adult dogs: Annual investigations to monitor the state of health.
  • Dogs (from about 7 to 9 years): At least every six months, including blood tests and arthrosis check-up, are recommended.

Why are regular examinations so important?
Many diseases initially show no or only non -specific symptoms. Diseases can be recognized and treated early by regular examinations. Health care also includes vaccinations and parasite prophylaxis. They protect the dog from serious illnesses.

Additional examinations may be necessary depending on the breed, living conditions and the dog's health. It is optimal to set an individual pension plan for the dog with the vet. (Stefan Richter)
