News overweight street dog becomes Google phenomenon

If you navigate on Google Maps through Texcoco, you will come across a curious entry between shops and the city park: “El Perro Gordo de Texcoo” – the thick dog from Texcoco. Visitors invite photos up, write loving comments and bring food to the animal.

The four -legged friend attracts numerous tourists and locals. But as lovable as the online presence appears, the animal's state of health is questionable. The dog lives on the street and suffers from heavy overweight – a state that can lead to serious diseases in dogs.

The viral mascot from Texcoco

As the online portal “InfoBae” reports, the animal is a bitch who has been living on a main street near several shops for years. They supply passers -by with water and feed, some even put on clothes in winter. Visitors take pictures with her – hundreds of reviews now collect on Google Maps.

With her perfect five-star rating, the bitch even exceeded famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower (4.7 stars). For many, it is considered a “jewel of Texcoco”. But with all sympathy, it is often overlooked that it urgently needs medical care. Obesity can be life -threatening, especially for abandoned animals.

Road dogs in Mexico: A far -reaching problem

There is a sobering finding behind the amusing history: According to the congress of Mexico city, over 29 million animals live on the street nationwide. An estimated 500,000 pets are suspended annually. Many of them have no access to food, protection or medical care.

Animal welfare organizations warn that well -intentioned feeding alone is not a solution. It helps at short notice, but can lead to overweight and associated diseases in the long term. Many symptoms remain undetected without veterinary care. For street dogs, too much weight often means an additional burden in the struggle for survival.

Why overweight is dangerous for dogs

Veterinary doctors indicate that overweight in dogs is far more than a cosmetic problem. It leads to excessive stress on the joints and spine and significantly increases the risk of diseases such as diabetes or cancer. Already ten percent of additional weight can shorten life expectancy and impair well -being.

According to the federal association of practicing veterinarians, around a third of the dogs in Germany are overweight. In cats, the proportion is even 40 percent. As a guide, if the ribs are difficult to palpate, the animal is too thick. A balanced diet and sufficient exercise are crucial – even with small dog breeds.
