GPS tracking brings back her German Shepherd from Braunschweig
Braunschweig (ots). On Thursday, December 18th, a 76-year-old Braunschweig woman was out for a walk in the Elm in the Tetzelstein area when her ten-year-old German Shepherd went out of sight. The woman searched in vain for her dog for several hours over two days and nights in wintry temperatures. Due to the effort involved, she initially couldn't find her way back to her car on Saturday, so she took a taxi home and contacted the police emergency number from there. Officers from the North Police Department drove with the 76-year-old from her home address towards Königslutter and were able to determine, based on the GPS data from the dog collar, that he was still alive and moving. The dog was found after just a few minutes.
The woman and dog were reunited safely and can now spend Christmas together. The car was also discovered abandoned on a field path by a forester the following day.
Jörn Paulsen, Head of Operations at the Braunschweig Police Department, said: “Such operations are what makes the police profession what it is. We are also happy when we end operations of this kind with a sense of achievement and were able to give someone great joy and contribute to this little Christmas miracle!”
