Resilient dog gives birth to 8 healthy puppies after living in unsanitary, abusive environment

The Alaqua shelter (Florida, United States) went to meet Foxy, discovered in a house that housed more than 80 neglected animals. Relieved to finally be safe, the dog gave birth and showed admirable resilience, she never lost faith in humans. She, like her little ones, are on the right track now.

Alaqua Animal Shelter had never seen a situation like this before. The 80 animals were in a pitiful state, in a situation described as “severe cruelty”explain Laurie Hoodfounder of the structure. She confides a little later to People : “We met with law enforcement on the property and ended up rescuing 85 animals when the owner was arrested. It was one of the worst cases I have seen in my entire career in animal welfare.”

“Dirt, excrement”

Particularly fragile, Foxy evolved in a very harmful environment. Laurie Hood explain : “The animals lived among dirt, excrement and animal remains. Many were severely malnourished and needed urgent medical attention. Foxy was one of them ».

Relief and care

From the start of its treatment, Foxy was washed, groomed and treated for the numerous fleas that had taken up residence on her coat. “Closely monitored”she gave birth some time after her arrival. The dog was able to welcome her babies in good conditions. A volunteer confides: “It was like she held on until she finally felt safe”.

“A trusting and caring mother”

The evolution of Foxy and her babies is very touching. Once relaxed, the dog let her personality express itself. Volunteers describe his many advances as follows: “We were able to see her relax, gain weight and start to enjoy life”.

Named after characters from the universe of Looney Tunesthe little ones have also grown up well alongside a very loving mother.

“Hungry for human connection”, Foxy can probably be adopted after taking care of her puppies. They will also join families when the time comes. The volunteers recall, at the end of this successful rescue, that “every animal deserves this opportunity”.
