Stuttgart (ots). The fire department rescued an eleven-year-old Labrador dog from a moorland in the Sommerhaldenweg area of Stuttgart-Botnang on Tuesday afternoon, March 3rd. The animal had been missing since midday and was in a life-threatening situation.
At around 3 p.m., walkers reported to the fire department a dog barking from a moor area off a path. A woman finally discovered the completely exhausted dog on the edge of a lake and alerted the fire department. On the way there, the emergency services received information that a dog was stuck in the moor. The operations manager then called for another fire engine. The situation was confirmed at the scene. The dog had sunk into the muddy bank area and was unable to free herself on her own. Rescue was not possible without suitable aids.

The fire brigade initially created safe access over the embankment to the lake using ladder sections. A fire brigade member explored the situation in the moor area wearing rubber boots and a protective suit. After the water rescue unit from fire station 3 arrived, two emergency services wearing special wetsuits and secured with lines went to the animal. They carefully freed the exhausted dog from the mud and brought her over the embankment to solid ground. There the animal was provided with water, roughly cleaned and protected from further cooling with blankets.
At the same time, the police investigated the owner. She arrived at the scene a short time later and picked up her dog. The police then drove the owner out of the forest with the animal so that she could go to a veterinary practice on her own.
