Witnesses wanted: helpless dog found in Karlum Forest

Dog found in Karlum ForestKarlum (ots). On Thursday, March 26th, around 10:25 a.m., the police went to Karlum Forest (Schleswig-Holstein) dispatched after walkers reported a helpless dog in the woods. The animal was found about 50 meters from the parking lot in a hollow near a walking path. The dog was not conscious, showed shallow breathing and was severely hypothermic. There were no externally visible injuries. For initial treatment, the dog was protected with blankets and then given veterinary care.

Fresh tire tracks were found in the vicinity of the site, indicating that a vehicle could have turned there shortly before. The dog may have been intentionally dumped in the woods during the day. It has not yet been possible to identify the dog. The animal was neither wearing a collar nor chipped data that could be assigned to an owner. The dog was taken to a veterinary practice for treatment. As its health continued to deteriorate, the animal had to be euthanized in the afternoon.

The police have started an investigation into suspected violations of the Animal Welfare Act and are asking witnesses who can provide information about the dog's origins or suspicious vehicle movements in the Karlum Forest area to contact the environmental protection service of the Husum police highway and district station on 04841 830577 or by email at environmental protection service.husum.pabr@polizei.landsh.de.
