Four paws going astray
Krefeld/Viersen/Nettetal (ots). On Tuesday, March 24th, an animal visitor provided a welcome change in the employees' everyday work at the Schwanenhaus customs office on the German-Dutch border.
A truck driver took advantage of a waiting time to take a walk around the customs area. A free-roaming dog joined him. A short time later they returned together to the customs office, where the brown Labrador male finally followed a customs officer into the building on his own. The staff immediately took care of the friendly four-legged friend: “Brownie,” as it later turned out. He was provided with water and received lots of attention in the form of lots of cuddles. Thanks to a tag from the animal protection organization Tasso attached to the collar, colleagues were able to find out the dog's name and the contact details of its owner.
Since the owner was initially unavailable, the responsible public order office took the dog to the Matthias Neelen animal shelter in Nettetal-Lobberich. From there, “Brownie” was safely picked up by his owner a short time later. The small incident underlines the fact that customs doesn't just focus on regulations, but also on humanity and commitment.
