“The central theme of the congress is animal welfare”

There Pet Revolution returns in 2026 for its 7e edition. This congress dedicated to animal welfare was born from a simple observation: scientific knowledge about animals is evolving rapidly, but it often remains compartmentalized between different professions and disciplines.

Sarah Jeanninthe founder, wanted to create a place for dialogue to connect scientific advances to realities on the ground and the growing expectations of the general public. Unique in Francethis event brings together experts from all backgrounds around the human-animal relationship, ethical issues, the evolution of professional practices and our relationship with living things.

The main objective of the Pet Revolution is thus to recall how essential it is before any adoption to fully understand the needs, modes of communication and behaviors of animals (cats, dogs, NAC, etc.) in order to build a respectful relationship adapted to their well-being. This approach is also shared throughout the year on Instagram via account @congres_petrevolutionwhere news, thoughts and explanations are relayed!

What observation pushed you to create this conference dedicated to animal welfare?

There are many leisure events around animals, as well as various professional conferences. On the other hand, there did not exist, in Francea scientific conference open both to professionals in the animal sector and to the general public. There are veterinary conferences, conferences intended for breeders, educators, or even meetings reserved for academics, but no event brings together all of these actors around a central theme: animal welfare.

However, this question is essential if we want to learn to live better together and take better care of the animals who share our lives. We wanted to create a space for reflection and exchange where everyone can have a voice in order to change mentalities and practices.

There Pet Revolution is today the only event of this type in France. Our desire is also that science does not remain reserved for the academic world, but that it can be shared and made accessible to as many people as possible.

Why was it important for you to create an event accessible to both professionals and the general public?

When a person chooses to live with an animal, they become responsible for its well-being. It therefore seems essential to us that she can access reliable knowledge in order to best meet her needs. Today, there is a lot of contradictory information on the Internet regarding the health, education or behavior of animals. We wanted to offer individuals a credible and rigorous space where they can develop their knowledge and nourish their thinking.

The objective is also to open the doors to the university and to scientific knowledge, to decompartmentalize knowledge in order to allow everyone to make informed decisions. This helps to prevent situations of discomfort, whether for humans or animals, and to promote better living together.

One of the major challenges of the Pet Revolution is to better understand the needs of animals, their behaviors and their means of communication. You also insist on updating knowledge. Why is this awareness essential today?

Scientific knowledge is constantly evolving and it is very important to stay up to date, both theoretically and practically.

We share our lives with animals that we love deeply, but many people ultimately know little about the species with which they live: its basic needs, its modes of communication or even its capacities for adaptation. This lack of knowledge can lead to situations of discomfort, because the environment and lifestyle offered to the animal do not always meet its real needs. It is also essential to understand that needs may vary from one individual to another. Beyond the species, you also need to know how to observe and understand the animal as an individual.

Behavioral disorders today constitute one of the main causes of abandonment. However, these abandonments are often linked to relational difficulties which are based on a lack of knowledge of many aspects of animal behavior. We love animals, but sometimes we still don't know them well. It is therefore our responsibility to train ourselves if we wish to offer them the best possible living conditions. They are not objects, but true life companions.

The Pet Revolution brings together very varied profiles (veterinarians, ethologists, lawyers, psychologists, educators, etc.). How does this interdisciplinarity make the event strong and original?

From our point of view, it is precisely the crossing of disciplines and the sharing of knowledge that make this event particularly enriching and stimulating. Confronting different perspectives allows us to advance our thoughts and practices. We bring together varied disciplines, but also complementary approaches: scientific research, clinics and field practice.

The objective is to create concrete bridges between scientific data and their daily applications. This is also why we regularly organize duo interventions between researchers and professionals in the field, as well as round tables encouraging exchanges and the comparison of experiences.

How do you choose conference topics and speakers?

The central theme of the congress is animal welfare. It is then broken down into several sub-themes: law, health and nutrition, education and behavior, law and society (particularly around animal mediation) as well as interspecies relations. We seek to bring together different types of complementary expertise. Researchers, in order to present the current state of scientific knowledge in their field; clinicians, to provide their empirical experience; but also professionals in the field: dog trainers, behaviorists, pet sitters, walkers, breeders, groomers, among others… so that they can share their experiences, their tools and their methods.

The speakers are selected based on several criteria: the works they have published, the conferences, podcasts or broadcasts in which they have appeared, but also thanks to the work of unions and professional associations such as the SECEPTHE MFECTHE LCMAthe collective Catus or even the FPS. This allows us to have guarantees concerning their ethics, their skills and their field experience.

If you had to convince a Woopets reader to check out Pet Revolution for the first time this year, what would you tell them?

I would tell him that Pet Revolution is above all a space for discovery, reflection and meeting around the animals with which we share our lives. Whether you are a simple individual, professional or student, everyone can find useful, accessible and directly applicable knowledge in everyday life. It is an event where you can learn to better understand your dog or cat, better identify their needs, improve the relationship you build with them, but also discover recent scientific advances in the field of animal behavior and well-being.

There Pet Revolution also allows you to meet researchers, veterinarians, educators, behaviorists and many field professionals in an open and caring setting, where exchanges are at the heart of the event.

Our ambition is that everyone leaves with more knowledge, tools for thinking and a more enlightened view of animals. Because understanding them better also means living better with them.
